John Connelly, President, called April’s meeting of the BOABC to order at 3:00 p.m. with 17 present. The minutes for the month of March were presented along with the Treasurer’s Report and approved.  Drew M. Smith, Two Trails, Inc., presented information about what it takes to be a green builder and green building.  It was very informative.

The Building Code Committee met on April 22, 2010 with 5 jurisdictions represented.  A packet was distributed with the old version and revised version of the Product Approval Submittal Affidavit.  The minor changes to this form were discussed such as removal of the signature line and the addition of “impact and non-impact”. 

BOABC Discussion:  Neal Morgan presented this item and stated that the forms presented will reduce the paperwork that is presented and create a uniformity throughout the county for all contractors.  The forms will work with both replacement and new installation.  Motion was made by Todd Morley to accept the documentation presented and encourage its use county wide. Second by Al Beyer.  The motion carried unanimously.

Last item that was discussed was “chickees” built by the Miccosukee Tribe of Florida or the Seminole Tribe of Florida as being exempt from the 2007 Florida Building Code.  It was noted that the “chickee” must be built by the tribe, which is a government entity, not just a member of the tribe.

Education Committee Chair, reminded everyone about the upcoming BOAF Seminar in September.  The information is on the BOAF’s website: www.boaf.net

BOAF Report:  Mike McCaughin gave a brief overview of the meeting and emphasized House Bill 663 Section 6 regarding Florida Statute 468.631 Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Fund and 553.721 Surcharge.  Effective October 1, 2010 the surcharge that was charged per square foot for new construction, renovations, alterations and additions has been removed.  The surcharge will now be assessed to all permit fees associated with enforcement of the Florida Building Code.
